A Milestone for Mental Health in Canada

November 11, 2019

It’s hard to believe that The Do More Agriculture Foundation is still a few months away from its two-year anniversary. What started as a series of tweets brought together a group of individuals that decided it was time for action. What followed was the coming together of an entire industry to not only champion the mental wellbeing of all producers but a changing of the culture we faced in Agriculture.

Today marks another great milestone for the Foundation. Over the past year, we have been working quietly behind the scenes to help move us from a non-profit to a registered charity. I’m pleased to announce that as of July 31st, 2019, the Do More Agriculture Foundation is a CRA registered charity. Though this may seem like minor semantics, the implications are huge. When we first started to discuss creating an organization like this, there were a few things that were very important to us. The most important was ensuring the foundation will be able to continue doing important work well into the future.

By receiving charity status, we are now able to approach additional funding sources that were previously out of our reach and continue to do more for Canadian producers. It was always our vision (and partly the reason for naming the organization as a “foundation”) that we would one day have an endowment fund. A fund that would supplement the great financial support we receive from partners and support the day to day operations of the foundation. Today, we are one step closer to that!

On behalf of our board and executive director, I thank you all for your continued support! Thank you to the partners for their continued generosity. Thank you to the events that welcome us on their stage. Thank you to the volunteers that have donated proceeds from their own fundraising efforts. Thank you to producers who are now having these new conversations within their families, and communities. Thank you to this amazing industry for embracing these changes, these conversations and more importantly, its people.

With great appreciation,

Himanshu Singh
