What's In Your Diet?

January 10, 2019

“The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past.”

Marie Kondō

Our diet does not just consist of what we eat, it also includes who we spend our time with, who we follow on social media, what we read, what shows we watch and what words we say to ourselves and others.

We are in a time of being bombarded with information. With the constant stream of commercials, advertisements, social media posts, news(real and fake), and technological advancement, it is hard to feel like we have control over what we consume.

When we think of consumption we often think of what we eat and drink, but consumption is much more than that. What we consume impacts our mental, physical and emotional well being. Reflecting on our consumption is a really powerful way to contribute to our self care. By looking at where we are spending our time, who we are spending our time with, what shows we are watching, who we are following on social media, we can clean up the space around us into a space that fosters well being.

“Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.”

Marie Kondō

How can you create a space where you can thrive? Here are 3 easy ways to start;

1 - Take a peek at your phone and look at the last 5 texts you received. Do the people who sent those texts make you feel good about yourself? If YES, shoot them a message thanking them! If NOT, check this article.

2 - Flip through your social media feed and ask yourself these questions. "Does following this person add to, or take away from my day?" If they add to it, great! If not, there is a button that we can use that helps clear up our virtual landscape…

3 - Read this to yourself, "I am valuable. Today is going to be a great day. I am capable of handling anything that comes my way. I ask for help when I need it. I am loved. I am resilient. I am intelligent. I am solution oriented. I am going to kick a** today!"

“When you come across something that you cannot part with, think carefully about its true purpose in your life. You’ll be surprised at how many of the things you possess have already fulfilled their role. By acknowledging their contribution and letting them go with gratitude, you will be able to truly put the things you own, and your life, in order. In the end, all that will remain are the things that you really treasure. To truly cherish the things that are important to you, you must first discard those that have outlived their purpose.”
